About the Event

Tutor: Maisie Minett

Creating watercolour calligraphy is easier than you might think, and we're thrilled to introduce you to multiple ways to incorporate colour into your brush lettering. Come and join us and be introduced to degrees of transparency, ombre effects and building up the depth of colour within your calligraphy, all using the humble paintbrush!

Not only does working with a brush open up unlimited colour options, but it also means that you're able to write onto all kinds of surfaces, from walls to wine glasses! The true freedom of brush calligraphy is that you can work at any size, on pretty much any surface. This is the perfect tool to master in the run-up to Christmas so that you can add that unique personalised touch to your presents for your friends and family.

You’ll be taught how to control the brush in simple steps so that we can build your confidence by gradually adding to your understanding of the techniques which make brush calligraphy so beautiful. We will show you how to blend colours, create ombré effects, and work with washes to create beautiful lettered artworks.

Our 2.5-hour workshop is designed for beginners. Carefully structured, our lesson plan takes you through guided exercises, creating the letters of the alphabet and turning them into elegant words. Finally, you’ll work onto our lovely card templates, designed by Kirsten Burke, the UK’s leading calligrapher.

All your worksheets and templates are yours to keep, so you can continue to practice your calligraphy with them at home.

As well as guiding the whole class with demonstrations and instructions, your tutor will be there to provide you with one-on-one tuition and troubleshooting any issues you may come across.

All the materials you’ll need are provided, and refreshments will be available throughout.

We have a small shop at our studio, stocking some of our favourite calligraphy supplies, including the items you will have used during your workshop so that you can continue your calligraphy journey at home!

When booking your workshop please give us a mobile telephone contact number so that if we need to cancel for safety reasons at short notice we will be able to contact you.

We are pleased to say that as a COVID secure venue, we are able to continue hosting workshops in our studios. We hope that being able to attend our workshops will give our students a much-needed opportunity to learn and relax in safety when so many other options are unavailable.

We take safety at our workshops seriously and we will do everything necessary to keep you safe and have a great workshop. We have a rigorous workshop hygiene procedure, socially distanced work stations, and practice no-touch teaching.

We ask that you please do not attend if you are feeling ill, or think that you may have been exposed to the virus. You are really welcome to attend a workshop with someone from your bubble but we cannot accept bookings of groups over six. Bubble members will be seated together,  socially distanced from other bubbles and individuals. Please wear a  mask to enter and move around the studio, but you are free to remove your mask if you want when you are seated.

We are continually reviewing our measures as new government guidelines are released, and the latest version of our safety procedures can always be found on our website, including what to expect when you attend a  workshop.
