Join us in person for a Tranquil Beach Retreat to Unlock your Calligraphy Style!

Calligraphy enthusiasts at all levels, from beginners to experienced. For those who are eager to unlock their creativity and develop a distinctive calligraphy style.

Our calligraphy retreat is the chance for you to spend a whole week-end, doing what you love with people who are as passionate about calligraphy as you are!

Nestled by the picturesque shores of the famous Blue Flag Beach of West Wittering, our exclusive retreat is the perfect opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and find a little ‘me’ time.

WHAT TO EXPECT

If you don't know where to begin, are stuck in a calligraphy rut, bored with the same old style, or have reached a plateau and can't seem to improve any more - then this is the perfect class for you. Or, perhaps you just want a weekend break away from it all, to make new pen pals while immersing yourself in the art of calligraphy, a stone's throw from the beach!

The course covers the fundamentals of calligraphy, including understanding different types of calligraphy styles, essential tools (such as pens, inks, and papers), and posture. You learn how to analyse your calligraphy, refine your style and take your lettering to the next level, improving it in ways you didn’t think were possible. Kirsten and Maisie will be on hand throughout the week-end to ensure that everyone gets the attention they need. They will take you on a deep dive into the different ways to change up your style, and the nuances you can add to make your calligraphy dance.

This week-end is focused on calligraphy style, how to achieve the styles you like, make them your own, and find your calligraphic 'signature' style.

ITINERARY

Friday 19th April

We’ll get together from 6 pm in the Beach House Guest House for a ‘meet and mingle’ session over a glass of bubbles and a yummy buffet dinner.  You can check in from 2.30 pm. We’ll do a quick intro and have a chat in more detail about what’s going to happen over the weekend.

With your tutor's help, you will put together your own ‘inspiration board’ of lettering styles you love. We’ll use this to guide your calligraphy practice for the weekend.

Saturday 20th April

You’ll have a delicious breakfast between 8 and 9am, before the workshop which will start at 9.30. We’ll have a delicious hot lunch together at 1pm and then continue with the workshop until at least 3pm. For those of you who cannot tear yourself away from the studio at 3pm, we will leave it open until 5pm should you wish to stay on.  We will focus on refining your style, which will mean less structured learning and much more one-to-one support. 

By now, you will have met some lovely people and may wish to plan where to go out in the evening, maybe for dinner together at the local pub, The Wittering which is a very short walk away.

Alternatively, pop into Chichester and visit the Cathedral or the Novium Museum, or check out what’s on at Pallant Art Gallery!

Sunday 21st April

After a delicious breakfast, we’ll have a stroll along the sandy beach to take in the spectacular views before we get going again on our calligraphy, (you can skip this if you prefer and enjoy a cuppa and a chat at the venue). Sunday's workshop will start at 10.30 am, but from 9.30 am any early birds can get started sooner. We’ll have a hot buffet lunch and finish around 3 pm giving you time to explore the area further, or plenty of time to hit the road to get home before dusk.

Location: The Beach House is located in the beautiful coastal village of West Wittering with the beach a short walk away. Inspired by the serene and relaxed atmosphere of beach living, each room combines casual elegance with a touch of nautical charm.

Group Size: Limited spots are available to maintain an intimate and focused environment with 15 guests being the maximum number at the retreat.
