What You'll Learn
Across the five sessions, we’ll take a longer piece of text from a simple printout through to a finished piece of calligraphy.
Session 1 — Planning & Sketching
Turn your chosen words into a full-size layout, working out scale and creating a template ready for calligraphy.
Session 2 — Writing the First Draft
Create your layout while exploring rhythm, spacing, style and smooth connections across a longer piece.
Session 3 — Introducing Colour
Explore blending tones within your calligraphy to bring more interest and depth to your piece.
Session 4 — Refining & Adding Depth
Learn how to give your letters room to breathe, making subtle adjustments to create a balanced layout.
Session 5 — Final Inking & Finishing Touches
Complete your final artwork, making those last adjustments that bring the whole piece together.
How You'll Access the Project
Once you've purchased Longer Layouts, you'll receive access to a private Google Drive folder containing all five recorded sessions and the accompanying worksheets.
The worksheets are in the Google Drive folder too, so they're easy to download, print and have beside you while you work.
One payment gives you access to the complete project; there’s no subscription, and you’re not joining the Calligraphy Club.
What You'll Need
You can work in your preferred calligraphy style using a pointed nib, a small paintbrush or a brush pen.
Computer with Word or Google Docs · Printer · Chosen prose, poem or quote · Pencil · Ruler · Rubber · Scissors or craft knife · Masking tape · Light pad · Practice paper · Calligraphy tool · Practice ink · Coloured inks or gouache · Smooth 300gsm watercolour paper
Using brush pens? You’ll also need contrasting colours and a small piece of plastic for blending.
Using gouache? Have a small paintbrush and clean water to hand.
Don't worry about having everything ready at once, as your worksheets include a materials list for each session.
