About the Event

Tutor: Laura Prudence

Copperplate is the style most people often think of when they imagine ‘traditional’ calligraphy. A controlled and elegant style that has been around since the 18th century, it is the forerunner to today’s modern pointed pen calligraphy. As modern calligraphy’s popularity is exploding, it is natural that those who have had a taste of that more playful lettering are now hungry to learn it’s formal and structured predecessor.

We are so excited to offer for the first time, our introduction to Copperplate calligraphy. Come and join us so that you can learn to use an oblique penholder, pointed nibs, and different inks. You will be guided through creating letterforms, and how to add flourishes to your work, then finish up with creating a pretty greeting card using your new skills. With carefully structured lesson sheets, templates, and lots of advice, demonstrations, and encouragement from Laura, this class is the perfect intro to becoming confident in this historic style.

Your tutor will be there to provide you with one-on-one tuition, tips, tricks and troubleshooting.

All the materials you’ll need are provided, and refreshments will be available throughout. We have a tasty selection of individually wrapped  treats to make sure you get something yummy while staying safe!

When booking your workshop, please give us a MOBILE telephone contact number so that if we need to contact you or cancel for safety reasons at short notice we will be able to.

We  are pleased to say that as a COVID secure venue, we are able to  continue hosting workshops in our studios. We hope that being able to  attend our workshops will give our students a much-needed opportunity to  learn and relax in safety when so many other options are unavailable.

We  take safety at our workshops seriously and we will do everything  necessary to keep you safe and have a great workshop. We have a rigorous  workshop hygiene procedure, socially distanced work stations, and  practice no-touch teaching.

We  ask that you please do not attend if you are feeling ill, or think that  you may have been exposed to the virus. You are really welcome to  attend a workshop with someone from your bubble but we cannot accept  bookings of groups over six. Bubble members will be seated together,  socially distanced from other bubbles and individuals. Please wear a  mask to enter and move around the studio, but you are free to remove  your mask if you want when you are seated.

We  are continually reviewing our measures as new government guidelines are  released, and latest version of our safety procedures can always be  found on our website, including what to expect when you attend a  workshop.
