3rd June Full Day Brush-Pen at The Studio
Time & Location
About the Event
Tutor: Maisie Minett
Brush pens come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and this class gives you the opportunity to try out lots of different types and discover the ones that are just right for you.
Modern calligraphy is about lettering that has energy and flow and brush lettering tools allow you to be the most creative. Just like with a pointed nib, it involves the pressure and release of the brush to get the gorgeous contrast of thick and thin lines.
Our workshops are carefully structured, building up your knowledge step by step. Our worksheets teach you how to combine strokes to form letters, then turn them into words and phrases. You’ll spend time working on beautiful brush lettering templates created by our Master Calligrapher Kirsten Burke, and enjoy getting to grips with techniques like ‘blending’ and ‘bounce’.
We have a shop at our studio, stocking some of our favourite calligraphy supplies, including the items you will have used during your workshop, so that you can continue your calligraphy journey at home!
All the materials you’ll need are provided, and refreshments will be available throughout as well as a delicious buffet lunch which will include a selection of hot quiches, vegetable tarts, cold meats, pate, cheese board, salads, and fresh bread! If you have any particular dietary requirements then please let us know.
We’ll build your confidence by gradually adding to your understanding of the techniques which make modern calligraphy so beautiful. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have progressed from making basic strokes to being able to connect letterforms and create your own calligraphic words and phrases.
All your worksheets and templates are yours to keep, so you can continue to practice your calligraphy with them at home.
As well as guiding the whole class with demonstrations and instructions, your tutor will be there to provide you with one-on-one tuition and troubleshooting any issues you may come across.
When booking your workshop please give us a mobile telephone contact number so that if we need to cancel for safety reasons at short notice we will be able to contact you!
We are pleased to say that as a COVID secure venue, we are able to continue hosting workshops in our studios. We hope that being able to attend our workshops will give our students a much-needed opportunity to learn and relax in safety when so many other options are unavailable.
We take safety at our workshops seriously and we will do everything necessary to keep you safe and have a great workshop. We have a rigorous workshop hygiene procedure, socially distanced workstations, and practice no-touch teaching.
We ask that you please do not attend if you are feeling ill, or think that you may have been exposed to the virus. You are really welcome to attend a workshop with someone from your bubble but we cannot accept bookings of groups over six. Bubble members will be seated together, socially distanced from other bubbles and individuals. Please wear a mask to enter and move around the studio, but you are free to remove your mask if you want when you are seated.
We are continually reviewing our measures as new government guidelines are released, and the latest version of our safety procedures can always be found on our website, including what to expect when you attend a workshop.
