At The Modern Calligraphy Co, we want you to have a great time and feel relaxed so that you are able to achieve your best results. During this 2.5 hour workshop for beginners, your tutor will give demonstrations for the whole class, as well as providing one-on-one support and troubleshooting any individual difficulties you come across.

As brush pens come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, this class gives you the opportunity to try out lots of different types and discover the ones that are just right for you.

Modern calligraphy is about lettering that has energy and flow and brush lettering tools allow you to be the most creative. Just like with a pointed nib, it involves the pressure and release of the brush to get the gorgeous contrast of thick and thin lines.

Our workshops are carefully structured, building up your knowledge step by step. Our worksheets teach you how to combine strokes to form letters, then turn them into words and phrases. You’ll spend time working on beautiful brush lettering templates created by our Master Calligrapher Kirsten Burke, and enjoy getting to grips with techniques like ‘blending’ and ‘bounce’.

Before you know it you'll be creating greeting cards, party invitations, and artworks for your home and to give as gifts.

Please bring a hot/cold drink with you as we will not have the facilities to provide anything other than water. Biscuits will be supplied on arrival.

There will be a small pop-up shop, stocking some of our favourite calligraphy supplies, including the items you will have used during your workshop, so that you can continue your calligraphy journey at home!
