Brush lettering is a fantastic way of personalising homemade gifts and decorations.  You can create a calligraphic style of lettering by applying more pressure on the downstrokes and less pressure on the upstrokes.

In this relaxed and informal workshop, be guided through the basic strokes and letterforms. Once you've grasped the fundamentals, we will explore different calligraphy styles and lettering variations. This allows you to personalise your work and develop your unique artistic voice. You can experiment with various flourishes, ligatures, and decorative elements to add flair to your lettering.

Like any skill, brush pen calligraphy requires practice to develop muscle memory. Regular practice helps you refine your technique, improve your control over the brush pen, and enhance the consistency of your letterforms. Set aside dedicated practice sessions to build your skills.

Brush pen calligraphy has a range of applications, from creating beautiful handwritten quotes and invitations to designing custom artwork and logos. You can also incorporate calligraphy into crafts, journaling, and other creative projects. Explore different avenues to express your creativity and find joy in applying your calligraphy skills.

Our workshops are carefully structured, building up your knowledge step by step. Our worksheets teach you how to combine strokes to form letters, and then turn them into words and phrases. You’ll spend time working on beautiful brush lettering templates created by our Master Calligrapher Kirsten Burke, and enjoy getting to grips with techniques like ‘blending’ and ‘bounce’. Your tutor will give demonstrations as well as provide one-on-one support and troubleshoot any individual difficulties you come across.
