We're thrilled to offer a 10-week watercolour calligraphy course for beginners.

From 14th January to 18th March 2022

Creating watercolour calligraphy is easier than you might think, and we're excited to introduce you to the multiple ways to incorporate colour into your brush lettering. Come and join us and discover degrees of transparency, ombre effects and building up the depth of colour within your calligraphy, all using the humble paintbrush!

Not only does working with a brush open up unlimited colour options, but it also means that you're able to write onto all kinds of surfaces, from walls to wine glasses! The true freedom of brush calligraphy is that you can work at any size, on pretty much any surface.

You’ll be taught how to control the brush in simple steps so that we can build your confidence by gradually adding to your understanding of the techniques which make brush calligraphy so beautiful. We will show you how to blend colours, create ombré effects, and work with washes to create beautiful lettered artworks.

Choosing the Ticket that includes our Watercolour Workshop Kit means you will have everything you need to complete all of the lessons and projects included in the course.

Week 1 The Foundations of Brush Calligraphy and controlling the brush. An introduction to creating letters with a water brush and paintbrush. How hard to press and where to change the pressure.

Week 2 Understanding alphabets and how to alter the style of your lettering.

Week 3 Mixing your colours, colour terms, experiments and using colour effectively.

Week 4 Using colour theory to create lettering compositions.

Week 5 Creative background washes, water control and exploring different effects.

Week 6 Combining calligraphy layouts with colour washes.

Week 7 Create beautiful loose watercolour florals to decorate your work.

Week 8 Combining calligraphy and Illustration. Creating borders and decorations.

Week 9 Constructing a Wreath and composing a finished piece, sketches and stages of a design.

Week 10 Completing the final piece incorporating a wash, wreath, border or another decorative element. Personalised guidance with composition and colour choices.

Your Kit

 A water brush, watercolour paint palette, bleed proof white, paintbrushes, watercolour paper to practice on, and high-quality sheets for the final pieces, washi tape and worksheets, and templates.

All of this will be posted out to you the week prior to your workshop. You only need to provide 2 jars of water, some kitchen paper and please protect the surface that you work on in case of paint splashes.

You will only receive the worksheets and template pack that will be posted out to you prior to the event.
