Stroud: Beginner Festive Calligraphy Workshop - Full Day
Time & Location
About the Event
Tutor: Lucia Leyfield
This Christmas themed workshop will guide you through creating your own gorgeous Christmas cards, gift tags, and gift wrap.
Learn to use metallic paints to form shimmering lettering, add simple illustrations like holly and stars to your calligraphy, and how to bounce your calligraphy to give it a modern style. You will finish by creating a calligraphic Christmas card.
Our full-day festive nib workshop is designed for beginners, allowing you the time to really get to grips with the techniques needed to take calligraphy forward and to continue lettering beautifully at home. Carefully structured, our lesson plan takes you through guided exercises, creating the letters of the alphabet and turning them into elegant words. Finally, you’ll work onto our lovely card templates, designed by Kirsten Burke, the UK’s leading calligrapher.
We’ll build your confidence by gradually adding to your understanding of the techniques which make modern calligraphy so beautiful. By the end of the class, you’ll have progressed from making basic strokes to being able to connect letterforms and create your own calligraphic words, phrases, and simple designs.
All your worksheets and templates are yours to keep, so you can continue to practice your calligraphy with them at home.
As well as guiding the whole class with demonstrations and instructions, your tutor will be there to provide you with one-on-one tuition and troubleshooting any issues you may come across.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn about letterforms, use metallics, and try some colour blending. With these techniques in your repertoire, you'll soon be creating greeting cards, party invitations, and artworks for your home and loved ones!
All the materials you’ll need are provided, so you can relax and enjoy it!
We are pleased to say that as a COVID secure venue, we are able to continue hosting workshops in our studios. We hope that being able to attend our workshops will give our students a much-needed opportunity to learn and relax in safety when so many other options are unavailable.
We take safety at our workshops seriously and we will do everything necessary to keep you safe and have a great workshop. We have a rigorous workshop hygiene procedure, socially distanced work stations, and practice no-touch teaching.
We ask that you please do not attend if you are feeling ill, or think that you may have been exposed to the virus. You are really welcome to attend a workshop with someone from your bubble but we cannot accept bookings of groups over six. Bubble members will be seated together, socially distanced from other bubbles and individuals. Please wear a mask to enter and move around the studio, but you are free to remove your mask if you want when you are seated.
